Hammond Knitters Needed to Help Soldiers

February 17, 2010

Hammond knitters are needed to help soldiers in a unique and fun way.  The Tealou & Josephine shop has created a group of knitters to knit helmet liners.  These helmet liners are shipped off to soldiers serving our country overseas.  The idea came about when a customer came into the Hammond shop to order a special type of yarn for helmet liners she was knitting for a soldier she knew serving abroad.  The owner of Tealou & Josephine, Gretchen Chauvin, thought this was such a great idea that she presented it to her knitting group.  The knitting group meets every Saturday from 1-2pm at the little shop located at 119 East Thomas Street in downtown Hammond to create the head warmers “in the round”.  Anyone can participate.  As long as you can knit 1, pearl 2, you are in!  If you can’t make it for the 1-2 pm session, you are more than welcome to stop by the shop at any time, pick up a free pattern, complete it at your own pace from home and drop it off at the store when you are finished.  The yarn must be 100% washable wool, nonflammable, warm when wet and in one of the approved olive, black or gray colors.  Ms. Chauvin says that the patterns are very simple and is currently looking for patterns for hats and cowls to knit in addition to the helmet liners.  If you are interested in participating in the “knit in” or want more information about this fantastic project, please contact Tealou & Josphine via email at Tealou@att.net or simply drop by the shop.  Put your knitting skills to work to support our troops.  Hammond knitters are needed to help soldiers.  Won’t you be one?  Thanks, Tealou & Josephine for showing us how Hammond helps others.

Hollywood Comes to Hammond

February 3, 2010

It’s official!  Hollywood has come to Hammond.  Over the next couple of weeks, Dark Horse Pictures will be filming in the area and using our beloved City of Hammond as the backdrop for its new sci fi/paranormal thriller “Seconds Apart”.  In fact, approximately 2/3 of the movie will be filmed here in the Hammond area, with the rest of the filming taking place in New Orleans.  While the actors are from out of town, some of the construction crew is comprised of local workers.  In addition to scenes being filmed in the downtown Hammond area, some scenes will be shot in nearby Ponchatoula.  “Seconds Apart” is about twin teenage boys with supernatural powers who live in present-day Louisiana and stars, amongst others, actor Orlando Jones.  Let’s show them what southern hospitality is all about by welcoming Hollywood to Hammond with open arms.
