Registration for Summer Safety Camp in Independence LA Begins Now

Registration for the Summer Safety Camp in Independence LA begins now.Registration for Summer Safety Camp in Independence, LA begins now. Independence’s Summer Safety and Crime Prevention Overnight Camping Retreat takes place from 6pm on May 14 to noon the following day and is absolutely free to all kids ages 5-13.  Sponsored by the Independence Summer Recreation Program and Martin Chapel AME Church, the safety camp is designed to help kids learn more about crime prevention and safety tips. The overnight safety camp will be held at the Independence Recreational Complex in Independence, Louisiana.  All participants in the camp are simply asked to supply their own camping equipment (sleeping bags, bug spray, tents, etc.).  In addition, the program is asking for donations to help provide needed camping supplies.  Some of the groups participating in this fun event include the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office, the DA’s office, the Tangipahoa Alcohol and Drug Abuse Clinic, Juvenile, Range and Dare, local police and fire officers, Dr. Clifton, Amite ROTC and Lallie Kemp Regional Hospital.  If you wish to register your child early for the Summer Safety Camp, simply visit the law offices of Cassandra Butler at 146 Hwy 40 West in Independence. You can also register at the Independence Recreational Complex on the day of the event.

Amite’s Got Talent

This Friday, April 9, 2010, the Amite’s Got Talent 2 Showcase will be held at 7pm at Amite High School’s theater.  Since last year was such a great success, the Amite Arts Council decided they would put another showcase on this year.  Included in this year’s showcase will be singers, dancers, musicians and comedians.  The show is expected to last for about two hours.  All proceeds from ticket sales will go to Relay for Life, the American Cancer Society program.  Tickets are $5 for regular admission and $3 for children under 12 years old.
